LinkedIn Isn’t a ‘One-Fits-All’ Strategy

Over the past 16 months, LinkedIn has grown by 75 million users and combined with the fact that 80% of leads from social media come from LinkedIn, it’s a good strategy for businesses looking to grow in 2019.

However, LinkedIn isn’t a ‘one-fits-all’ strategy.

There can be plenty of reasons that LinkedIn might not be the best platform for you to grow your business and these include:

1. You’re not looking to engage with an audience, or you’re more focused on finding mailing list contacts.

Building relationships and maintaining networking connections is key to finding success through LinkedIn. If you’re not interested in targeted communications with your connections, it will be challenging to build a relationship and make an impact on the platform.

While some users still use LinkedIn for their mail list, it’s not a strategy we recommend. LinkedIn actively dissuades users from doing so by making it more difficult for members to only be added to a mail list.

2. You don’t have the time to spend on targeted social media networking.

Like many avenues in life, LinkedIn runs on the idea of ‘what you put into LinkedIn, is what you get out of LinkedIn’. You will need to spend some time engaging on the platform and contributing to other members and their achievements, in order to succeed.

If you don’t have the time to focus efforts on engagement via LinkedIn, it will be more difficult to find success.

3. You want to make it about your business rather than yourself.

While you can create company pages, LinkedIn works best with person to person connections. If your content is all about your business, it will be harder for people to make connections with you (and thereby, your business).

4. You struggle to adapt to technology changes.

Even just recently, LinkedIn has made numerous updates to the platform, a trend I am sure will continue in 2019. In order to get the most out of LinkedIn, you will need to be able to quickly learn and adapt your strategies with these changes. What we do for our clients in 2019 will be different to this time last year.

With a constantly improving platform, it will be a requirement to be just as adaptive, as a user.

5. You don’t have a strategy.

If you don’t have a strategy, it can be difficult to make LinkedIn work for you in an efficient and effective manner. While it’s not the sole reason to not use LinkedIn, it can become a pointless exercise to do so anyway. However, with a strategy, you will have a better chance of success.

The date and statistics show LinkedIn isn’t going anywhere soon, but it’s not for everyone.

If you contribute in a strategic way, LinkedIn can be a fantastic tool to build your business.
