6 Things Successful People Do That Make Them Great
Do you look up to successful people and wonder how they became successful? Does it seem impossible for you to have the same success in your own business?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in business, is if someone has been successful and this is what you want for your business, then learn from what they have done to get there, and emulate it.
Success isn’t all about luck or strategy. It’s about focus, determination, belief, tenacity and a hell of a lot of hard work. If you can’t change your mindset and behaviours, then not even the best of strategies or advice will lead to success.
Here are five key behaviours that successful people have formed as habits and practice without even a thought:
1. Work hard and make thing happen, no waiting around for your dreams to come to you.
Successful people are irritated by lazy people. Working hard can give you a real competitive edge. There are two ways to tackle business. You can be passive, by sitting back and waiting for something great to come your way. Or you can create opportunity.
If you sit back and wait, you’ll be waiting a long time. Waiting around for your dreams to come true is a waste of your time and potential. Those who achieve success understand that. Successful people find solutions to the problem. They see problems and challenges as an opportunity for growth.
2. Challenge the status-quo.
Doing the same thing as everyone else isn’t going to cut it. People like Elon Musk and Steve Jobs were successful because they are passionate about innovation. And making a difference in people lives. The businesses that challenge the status-quo, that think differently are leading the way.
Airbnb, the largest accommodation provider, don’t own any real estate. Uber, the taxi company, doesn’t own any cars and Alibaba, the retailer, has no inventory. These companies are changing our world, and there will be more to come. Make it your mission to stand out from the crowd.
3. Surround yourself the right people. High achievers.
As Benjamin Franklin once said, “If you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas.” I’ve always believed who you surround yourself with matters. Who you spend time with shapes your behaviours and views. Surround yourself with people with more knowledge, passion, and drive to succeed than you.
It will push you to improve and grow. Search for an opportunity to meet and be around high achievers. Particularly in areas where you want to learn more. You’ll benefit in many ways. Successful people build a strong network of these people. Not only does establishing networks help build success through behaviours.
Additionally, these environments offer a place for support and advice.
4. Always continue to learn.
My personal favourite. I’m obsessed with learning, developing and growing.
When you think, you’ve finished learning, you stop growing. Stagnation will kill any chance you have at success. If you think you know everything, you don’t.
Someone out there will know many things you don’t – and successful people know this. Tony Robbins is a prime example here. He reached success through ongoing learning, and he taught himself through reading books. The more you learn, the more you know. And knowledge is power!
5. Stay hungry and never give up.
Successful people are hungry. They are determined, and they are always looking for ways to do what they do better and faster. The trick to staying hungry is passion. Find something you are passionate about and you’ll never be satisfied.
Successful people also view obstacles or setbacks as opportunities to learn and start again. They don’t give up and walk away. There are always trial and tribulation in business. The key is to be an opportunist and appreciate the learning from your mistakes and failures.
6. You can make it happen.
Successful people are proactive; they make thing happen. If they set a goal, they take constant action to create it. I’ve heard a lot of people say they want to start their own business, or they want to grow their business. What stops them is they do nothing about it. Without action, nothing will happen.
Take charge. Be proactive. Stop delaying. If you want your dream, take action. Start now.
