Have you ever introduced yourself to someone at a networking event only to find them…
Steps to Smash Your Goals
By now your goals for this year are starting to fade into the background.
The enthusiasm you had for a brilliant year is being forgotten as the routine of life, business and universe distracts you. But there’s no need to let those lofty goals fall away. You just need to adjust the strategy. The goal is the outcome, but it is not the process.
To reach your goal you need to break it down into simple, repeatable actions you can regularly take to get you closer. So, don’t focus on the goals, focus on the steps. What are the steps you need to take to get you further along your path?
These are the things you need to be focusing on:
For building my business, steps like attending networking events are important.
By committing to regularly attending networking events, I expose myself to more people, more conversations, more ideas and along the way, more clients. The goal is a certain measurable increase in business. The step is committing to a certain number of networking events.
It is important to also measure the success of your strategy.
Is attending networking events actually generating more business? Are your leads or new business a direct result of a contact, a conversation with someone at a networking event. If the answer is yes, and it’s a good quality business, then keep doing it. If, however, after six months of attending four or five networking events each month, no new business (or nothing significant) has been generated then perhaps you need to review the strategy.
Beware busy and productive and often mutually exclusive.
As business owners, it is easy to fall into the trap of being busy and feeling like you are being productive. You need to monitor your busyness to check if it is moving closer to your goal. Previously I had a strategy of making 10 cold calls a week. I committed to it. I kept doing it, but I realised I really wasn’t generating much work from it. It was a hard slog, a bit depressing and unrewarding. When I switched to networking, I was achieving a much better result.
So, pull out those goals you excitedly crafted a month or two ago and have another look.
What strategy/steps do you need to be committing to each day/week to move you further along your path?
- Who do you need to be calling?
- Who do you need to be meeting?
- What assets do you need to be creating?
- What resources do you need to be attracting?
- Who do you need to be following up?
- What systems do you need to set up?
- What technology do you need to invest in?
What are the steps you can take today, tomorrow and the day after to keep you moving towards your goal?
