Why an Accountability Buddy Is Your Secret Weapon for Faster Growth

I know as a Small Business owner, especially as a mumpreneur, you are zealous about your family and business and are hopeful to achieve great things in both. However at times, days can go by and you are yet to implement your plan of action you created, and you feel disappointed because of it.

Do you feel tired of just carrying your plans over from month to month while the possibility of you doing anything goes down with each passing day? Then take some time to consider for a moment, “how can I make this month better than the last one and accomplish my goals?

There are numerous things you could try like, hire a business coach. Or, you could join tens if not hundreds of private Facebook groups to keep you motivated. You could even enrol in the latest program that will promise to solve your lack of enthusiasm with their signature blueprint.

But could your lack of motivation perhaps be due to a lack of accountability?

I have to admit, I initially underestimated the power of having a partner of responsibility.

As peculiar as it may sound, accountability makes you responsible. You are more likely to begin avoiding excuses and take deliberate steps in order to achieve a desired victory. In addition, it is an incredibly affordable way to start; you will only need the investment of your time, knowledge, and experience.

So what should you look for in an accountability partner?

Remember, an accountability partner is not going to set the goals for you. I do not believe an accountability partner is a mentor nor business coach. Instead, it is a partner in crime who is going to hold you responsible for commitments you have set for yourself.

I think the most valuable part of having an accountability buddy is that they will call you out on your irrationality. They are the type of person that will help you distinguish between your authentic goals and from words you tell yourself that potentially could sway you away from achieving your ambitions.

An accountability partner is also someone who will not judge you. Instead, they will guide you through difficult times and remind you of the bigger picture whilst pushing you out of your comfort zone.

Keep in mind, accountability only works as a returned process. Instil the same attitude and responsibility for your accountability partner as they do for you.

Hold him or her responsible for the things you both agree on. It would be of benefit to you and your accountability partner if you rock up to your meeting with the same attitude and desire you want to be given to help them achieve their goals.

I have seen accountability relationships grow into friendships or strong partnerships that have an enduring success. If you desire this special relationship, be sure to look for someone with similar values but someone you feel comfortable with. Take your time and be meticulous in your choice.

Super article Petra and as someone who runs a business whilst also living with a mental illness, I know all too well the power of having an accountability buddy. Mine is a fabulous woman in Melbourne who also lives with bipolar disorder. We Skype once a week to chat about our businesses, our mental health, our successes and our challenges. I would be lost without her.
